Stopping to listen to someone is not very egocentric. Without the headphones (in the scenario) she would have just ignored him or politely declined the flyer.

So either way, wrong word.

I'd have expected some gesturing to the AirPods or to a phone, and not assuming that the flyer person would know that those magical earbuds would translate everything he said.
